MSME Secretary Bidyut Bihari Swain appointed as UPSC member: Official

Senior bureaucrat Bidyut Bihari Swain, who is currently the Secretary of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), has been appointed as UPSC member, officials said on Tuesday. Swain, a 1988 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Gujarat cadre, will be administered the oath of office and secrecy on Thursday, they said. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts civil services examination annually to select officers of IAS, Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others. The Commission is headed by a chairman and it can have a maximum of 10 members. With Swain's appointment, there now exists a vacancy of four members. A UPSC member is appointed for a term of six years or until attaining 65 years of age. Swain was going to superannuate in September this year after turning 60. Capital Small Finance eyes Rs 14,000 cr in FY24 on back of MSME loan growth

Capital Small Finance Bank Limited is looking at its total business rising over Rs 14,000 crore by the end of current financial year on the back of growth in its advances led by MSME loans and mortgages. The Jalandhar-headquartered bank has also plans to expand its branch network by opening 20 more branches in the northern region. Capital Small Finance Bank started operations as the country's first small finance bank in April, 2016 after conversion from Capital Local Area Bank. Prior to conversion to the Small Finance Bank, Capital Local Area Bank had been operating since January 14, 2000. In the last financial year, the bank's total business grew to Rs 12,000 crore with 12 per cent growth. "We are looking to grow our business to more than Rs 14,000 crore (by end of 2023-24)," Capital Small Finance Bank Limited chief financial officer Munish Jain said on Tuesday. Better ecosystem being developed for small entrepreneurs in Himachal: CM

A better ecosystem is being developed for small entrepreneurs in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said in Saturday. The chief minister made the remark during a discussion with the Secretary, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Government of India, B B Swain here. Discussions were held on the expansion and strengthening of MSMEs in the state during the meeting. Union MSME minister Narayan Rane on Wednesday urged the global and domestic industries to continue to invest in India, which is on its path to become the third largest economy. Max Life partners IIA to offer insurance access to MSME workforce in UP

Max Life Insurance Company on Monday announced a partnership with the Indian Industries Association (IIA) to provide life insurance plans to the workforce of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) in Uttar Pradesh. AP Chambers seeks govt intervention as MSMEs face shortage of manpower

Facing acute shortage of manpower in the micro small and medium enterprises (MSME) segment, the Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry Federation (AP Chambers) on Friday requested the State government to usher in some fundamental changes so that polytechnic students do not get wooed away by the software industry from core engineering streams. Potluri Bhaskar Rao, president, AP Chambers wrote to C Nagarani, director of Technical Education, that the situation is not conducive for industry in the southern state as students are being "brainwashed" not to pursue careers in mechanical, electrical, civil and metallurgy engineering streams but to go after only white collar software jobs. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the government's MSME Competitive (LEAN) scheme is a part of its efforts to strengthen the MSME sector, which is a key pillar of India's economic growth. Govt offers 5G test bed for free to recognised startups, MSMEs till Jan'24

Department of Telecom (DoT) has offered the usage of 5G test bed free of cost to start-ups and MSMEs recognised by the government, up to January 2024, an official release said on Monday. The release further said that all 5G stakeholders including industry, academia, service providers, research and development institutions, government bodies and equipment manufacturers can utilise this facility at a very nominal rate. The move will encourage the usage of the test bed and give a fillip to the development of indigenous technologies/ products in line with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat' vision.
