All-time liquor sale in Kerala on a high during New Year eve: BevCo

Kerala saw an all-time record-breaking liquor sale of over Rs 100 crore on New Year's eve, according to a source in the Kerala State Beverages Corporation Ltd (BEVCO). "It was an all-time record for December 31 and for any other day of the year till now," the source told PTI. On December 31, 2022, around Rs 107 crore worth of alcohol was sold from the 268 BEVCO outlets across the State, the source said. During the festive season from December 22 to December 31, alcohol worth around Rs 690 crore was sold, he said. The highest sales as on December 31 were reported from the BEVCO outlet on Powerhouse Road in Thiruvananthapuram where alcohol worth Rs 1.12 crore was sold, he said. "All BEVCO outlets, including those in high-range areas of the State, saw sales of more than Rs 10 lakh. We have never seen such sales in those areas," the source said. Air quality very poor in Kolkata on New Year's Day as people burst crackers

Air quality in Kolkata remained 'very poor' on New Year's Day on Sunday as revellers burst firecrackers after midnight. West Bengal Pollution Control Board, however, maintained that air quality index (AQI) remains poor during this time of the year as fine particulate matter remain suspended closer to the ground and get mixed with fog. It also claimed that fewer firecrackers were burst this year on the occasion of New Year. AQI of 314 (PM 2.5) was recorded at Bidhannagar, 303 at Victoria Memorial and 319 at Rabindra Bharati University around 5 pm on Sunday, all categorised as very poor. On the previous day, AQI of 336 (PM 2.5) was recorded in Bidhannagar, 320 at Victoria Memorial and 316 in Rabindra Bharati University, a WBPCB official said, emphasising that air quality almost remained the same and bursting of fireworks did not have any significant impact on it. Delhi: Army chief visits Research and Referral Hospital, greets patients

Army chief Gen Manoj Pande on Sunday visited patients at the Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi Cantonment area and extended New Year greetings to them. He was accompanied by his wife Archana Pande, officials said. "General Manoj Pande, COAS & Mrs Archana Pande, President AWWA, visited Army Hospital (R&R), Delhi Cantt & interacted with the patients, including Serving Soldiers, Veterans & their Families. They extended New Year greetings & wished good health & speedy recovery to the patients," the Army tweeted. "COAS appreciated the Doctors, Nursing Officers & the Paramedical staff and lauded their efforts in providing conducive health care eco-system," it said in another tweet.
