Onion prices have quadrupled in the last two weeks due to lower supply as farmers and stockists held their inventory on expectations of further price spike. Onion hits 8-month high on supply disruptions, low arrivals

Onion prices hit the highest in eight months on a sharp increase in festival demand from stockists from domestic and overseas markets amid reports of low arrivals in major mandis across the country.Data compiled by the National Horticultural Research & Development Foundation (NHRDF) showed model price of onion in the benchmark Lasalgaon mandi in Maharashtra at Rs 8.70 a kg on Tuesday, almost double the price from its recent low of Rs 4.50 a kg on May 31.
