World Cup 2023: Rauf overcomes 'rib strain' scare, Shadab to be reassessed

Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf, who developed a strain on his ribs, is fine and available for selection for their concluding group league clash against England in the World Cup. "Haris underwent an MRI scan of his rib and the report is okay. The test was carried out as a precaution after he reported pain on the left side of his ribs during the last game in Bengaluru against New Zealand," Pakistan media manager Umar Farooq told PTI here on Tuesday. Rauf had some "strain" on his ribs against New Zealand in Bengaluru but managed to complete his full quota, finishing with underwhelming figures of 1/85. Set a massive target of 402, Pakistan won by 21 runs via the DLS method to keep their slender semifinal hopes alive. World Cup 2023: 3 teams, 3 days, one spot to decide India's semifinal rival

Following Australia's sensational victory on Tuesday night that sealed their last-four clash against South Africa, it will largely be a three-way battle among New Zealand, Pakistan and Afghanistan to identify hot-favourite India's semifinal rival. New Zealand, Pakistan and Afghanistan are on eight points each and are separated only by Net Run-Rate. The Kiwis, who face the struggling Sri Lanka in their last group match at Bengaluru on Thursday boast the highest NRR of 0.398 among the three teams. The last edition's runners-up need to win by a handsome margin and hope that Pakistan (0.036) and Afghanistan (-0.038) do not win. The Black Caps' late struggle -- they have lost four matches in a row with poor bowling -- and a rain forecast for their match in Bengaluru has added some more spice to the intriguing scenarios. Pakistan players have been fined 10 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against New Zealand in a World Cup league game which they won by 21 runs here. Pakistan kept alive their semifinal hopes by defeating New Zealand via the Duckworth Lewis (DLS) method after rain curtailed the crucial fixture at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday. World Cup 2023: Team needs to learn a few lessons feel Kane Williamson

The defeat via DLS method against Pakistan was their fourth in a row in the tournament, leaving the Kiwis in a must-win situation against Sri Lanka on November 9 here and they will also have to keep the net run rate equations in mind. There's a lot left in this tournament for us. It's a frustrating result for us after so much of it going so well today. We need to move on and focus on our next challenge take the positives, learn a few lessons, said skipper Williamson in the post-match press conference. A thumping seven-wicket win over Bangladesh has certainly uplifted the mood in Pakistan's camp and opener Fakhar Zaman on Tuesday said they're firmly focused on making the semifinals, despite all the ifs and buts. Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi led the pace attack brilliantly to bowl out Bangladesh for a paltry 204 before they cantered home in 32.3 overs to hugely boost their net run-rate. Against South Africa, we made comebacks while batting as well as bowling. "We are getting our combinations right. I've been part of this dressing room for eight years now, it will improve further," he said. Making a comeback after five matches, Fakhar struck a 74-ball 81 and laid the foundation with Abdullah Shafique (68) in a 128-run opening stand.
