Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday said offering visa on arrival facilities for medical treatment can be considered to patients from countries such as the US. The idea was floated in the CIIs annual health summit here. "The idea about visa on arrival is a good idea. We will pursue that...For many countries, we allow visa on arrival, we allow e-visas...both these can be considered let's say for the United States, most of the European countries... not all by the way ...for most of the countries where we have a fair amount of comfort and where detailed investigations or enquiries are not required," Goyal said. He suggested the CII to work on the idea and share with the government. "Off course one has to look at what will be the certifications and which are the countries for which we can allow that," he added.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has agreed to consider the domestic industry's request to extend the implementation timeline of the quality control order (QCO) for various electrical appliances, an official statement said on Friday. Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) convened a stakeholder consultation meeting under the chairmanship of the minister on May 15 to discuss the issues being faced by the industry in the implementation of horizontal QCO on "Safety of household, commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances" notified on September 20, 2024. The industry raised its concerns and highlighted issues faced by them in the implementation of the order on various electrical appliances. The DPIIT said that the industry supported the intent behind QCOs to ensure only high-quality products, but they requested for notifying these orders on finished goods first followed by QCOs on components and raw materials, considering the complexity of global .

The country's goods exports touched USD 447 billion till the last count for 2022-23 fiscal year as against USD 422 billion in 2021-22, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday. The final export and import data for 2022-23 would be released by the mid of April. At present, the ministry is in the process of collating the data. The trade data for goods comes with a lag of about 15 days and in the case of services data, it is 45 days. Goyal said that services exports are estimated to cross USD 320 billion in 2022-23. Growth in merchandise goods would be around 6 per cent for the last fiscal, he said, adding that it has grown from "USD 422 billion to USD 447 billion at last count (as the) final numbers are still awaited". He said the country's exports are growing despite global challenges such as rise in raw material prices, restrictions in exports of certain products like wheat and Russia-Ukraine war. The Department of Commerce is being restructured to make it 'future ready' and put in place an ecosystem to achieve the USD 2 trillion export target by 2030, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday. Talking to reporters here, the commerce and industry minister said that as part of the restructuring exercise, a dedicated trade promotion body would be set up to devise an overall strategy to achieve targets.
