Tipu Jayanti: RSS leader, journalist booked for religious abuse

The Karnataka police have filed a case against five people, including an RSS leader and a local journalist in the Kodagu district under Section 295(A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for religious abuse.On November 5, a public programme was organised in Kodagu against the celebrations of Tipu Jayanti. During the programme, RSS leader Sudhakar Hosahalli, local journalist Santosh among others allegedly spoke against Tipu Sultan and demanded that the Karnataka government should not celebrate Tipu Jayanti.Subsequently a person named Sidapur Oscar filed a complaint at the Gonikoppal Police Station against Santosh, Hosahalli, Robert Rozario, Rangakarmi Kariyappa and Bacharniyanda Appanna.On Tuesday, the police registered the case against all five of them under Section 295 (A) which refers to "Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs.

Bollywood-loving Bahrain Sheikh fights damages claim in UK court

A Bollywood-loving member of the Bahrain royal family is set to fight a nearly USD 42.5-million damages claim brought by an Egyptian businessman when a four-day trial opens in the UK High Court on Tuesday. Ahmed Adel Abdallah Ahmed is suing Sheikh Hamad Isa Ali al-Khalifa, a cousin of the King of Bahrain, for allegedly reneging on a verbal agreement dating back to 2015. Under the agreement, Ahmed claims Sheikh had legally contracted his firm CBSC Events to arrange private meetings with as many as 26 famous Bollywood stars on a wish list drawn up by him. However, Sheikh reportedly went back on the deal after meetings with four Bollywood stars Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh and Aditya Roy Kapoor in Mumbai and Dubai for which he paid around USD 3 million. Man kills father for not giving share from retirement funds

A 22-year-old man allegedly killed his father by attacking him with a rod in Telangana's Rachakonda area, after the latter refused to share his retirement funds.Narayana, ACP, Vanasthalipuram informed that deceased identified as Krishna retired from waterworks department in June 2017, from where he got six lakh as retirement benefits. Later, he also sold a plot which was on his name for Rs 10 lakh.Following this, Krishna's son, Tarun asked his father to distribute the money between him and his two sisters.As per the police, Krishna kept Rs. 2 lakh with himself and distributed the rest of the amount, but a few months later Tarun started harassing his father for the remaining amount.When Krishna refused to do so, Tarun allegedly attacked him with the rod, following which he fell unconscious. Ayodhya suit plaintiff says temple can't be built on mosque land

One of the plaintiffs in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit, Haji Mahboob, Monday welcomed spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's efforts to amicably resolve the Ayodhya dispute, but reiterated that a mosque will always remain a mosque and noting new can be built on its land. Minorities panel chief favours Ram Temple construction for Muslims' peace

National Commission for Minorities chairperson Syed Ghayorul Hasan Rizvi backed construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya so that Muslims can live peacefully in the country.Speaking to ANI, Rizvi said it is imperative that Muslims in the country be allowed to live without any fear. Atonement ritual held at Padmanabha Swamy shrine over

An atonement ritual has been performed at the famous Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple here following suspicion that some non-Hindus entered it in violation of traditional customs. The ritual was held Sunday night based on the temple tantri's (head priest) order, temple sources said. However, the sources rejected reports that 'seeveli', a traditional ritual performed at nights before the sanctum sanctorum closes, was cancelled by the priests for two days for the completion of the atonement ceremony. "The atonement ritual was heldas per the directions of tantri. It is true that the seeveli ritual was a bit delayed yesterday due to that," a temple staff, who did not want to be quoted, told PTI.
