Delhi hit-and-drag case: Court sends six accused to 14-day judicial custody

A court here on Monday sent six accused in the case involving the death of a 20-year-old woman, who had got trapped in the underside of a car and killed, to 14 days' judicial custody. "14 days judicial custody granted," Metropolitan Magistrate Sanya Dalal said. The prosecution said it was found during their custodial interrogation that the accused were aware of the victim's body being dragged under the wheels. The additional public prosecutor, however, did not disclose the identity of the two accused who got down from the car to inspect what was under the wheels. The investigating officer informed the court that CCTV footages were being obtained, the route taken by the car was being established, and around 20 witnesses had recorded their statements. He also said a new witness, who was around 100 metres from the spot of the accident, has joined the investigation. Police had initially arrested Deepak Khanna (26), Amit Khanna (25), Krishan (27), Mithun (26), and Manoj Mittal in the

Delhi road accident: Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia sanctioned for victim's family

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said the Delhi government has sanctioned an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the family of Anjali Singh, who died after being dragged under a car last week. Singh, 20, was killed in the early hours of the New Year after her scooter was hit by the car which dragged her for 12 kilometres from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala in outer Delhi. Her body was later dislodged and found lying on a road in Kanjhawala. "Anjali's painful death shook the entire country. It cannot be compensated for but to help her family, the Delhi government sanctioned an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh today. We are standing with her family and will help them in every possible way," Kejriwal said in a tweet in Hindi. Police have arrested six people in connection with the accident, while the seventh surrendered before them on Friday evening.

Delhi hit-and-drag case: Sixth accused sent to three-day police custody

A court here on Friday remanded in police custody for three days the sixth accused arrested in the case of death of a woman who was hit by a car and dragged on the roads for about two hours in the national capital. Police had arrested Ashutosh earlier in the day. Metropolitan Magistrate Sanya Dalal allowed his three-day custodial interrogation after the Delhi police sought his remand for five days. The five people accused of causing the death of 20-year-old Anjali Singh had allegedly borrowed the car from Ashutosh. Those arrested earlier are: Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishan, Mithun and Manoj Mittal. The victim was killed in the early hours of the New Year Day after her scooter was hit by a car and she got entangled underneath the vehicle before being dragged for more than 12 kilometres. Her body later got dislodged and was found lying on the road in Kanjhawala. The court had on Thursday extended the police custody of the five accused by four days.

Women dragging death case: Court sends five accused to police custody

A court here on Thursday remanded in police custody for four days the five men accused of causing the death of the woman who was hit by a car and dragged a long distance in the national capital. Metropolitan Magistrate Sanya Dalal allowed the Delhi police to have the accused in their custody for four days more for interrogation instead of their prayer for a five-day remand. During the hearing, the investigating officer said their further custody was required as police needed to establish the nearly 13-km-long route the accused had taken to traverse in two hours on the fateful night when the victim woman had got entangled under the vehicle after being hit. The IO also said one of the accused was "planted" as the driver of the vehicle. He said all of them were subjected to sustained interrogation over the last three days in custody. The victim Anjali Singh (20) was killed in the early hours of the New Year after her scooter was hit by a car, which dragged her for about 12 kilometres
