18-year-old sprinter allegedly commits suicide at JLN Stadium

Sprinter Parvinder Chaudhary on Tuesday passed away after he allegedly committed suicide at the Sports Authority of India (SAI)-run athletics academy here at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.The 18-year-old was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside his hostel room in the athletics academy."I was told he had an argument on phone with his father yesterday morning. Later, his sister came to talk to him too. Unfortunately, we could not save him despite our best efforts," a SAI official told ANI.The reason behind the suicide is not yet known.

Hawala racket busted in poll-bound MP

The Income Tax Department has busted a Hawala racket and recovered documents with transaction details of more than Rs 500 crore in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur city.The details were recovered during raids conducted at multiple locations in the last two days.As per sources, the IT department conducted raids at 17 different locations in the state. During the raids, the IT department recovered undisclosed property of Rs 3.5 crore and Rs 60 lakh worth of cash belonging to a businessman in Jabalpur.Investigation in the matter is underway. A political angle is also being probed by the IT department.Madhya Pradesh will go to polls on November 28 to elect members to 230 constituencies. Results will be declared on December 11.

TRS woman leader threatens suicide if denied poll ticket

: A woman leader of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has again threatened to commit suicide if she was not allotted ticket to contest from Huzurnagar assembly constituency for the next month's elections. For the past few months Kasoju Shankaramma, TRS in-charge of Huzurnagar constituency in Suryapet district has been requesting the party leadership to consider her name for the Huzurnagar seat and had been threatening to commit suicide if she was denied ticket. Shankaramma, mother of Telangana Martyr Srikantha Chary, Tuesday told reporters here that she will commit suicide if she was not nominated from Huzurnagar. UN urges B'desh to halt plans for repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet Tuesday asked Bangladesh to halt plans for the repatriation of more than 2,200 Rohingya refugees to Myanmar, warning that forcibly returning them to their home country would be in violation of international law and put their lives and freedom at serious risk. The UN Human Rights Office said in a statement that the refugees in Bangladesh's Cox's Bazar are the victims of human rights violations committed in the midst of the violence that erupted in August 2017. The violence led to more than 725,000 people fleeing the area. The statement said that refugees have stated repeatedly that they do not wish to return under current conditions. Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case: Court orders seizure of land of Thakur's wife

A court here has directed to seize a total of 40 decimal of land belonging to the wife of Brajesh Thakur, the prime accused in the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case. Asha Thakur's 40 decimal of land is spread over various parts of Muzaffarpur district. She is a member of the Brajesh Thakur-led NGO, "Seva Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti", which used to run the Muzaffarpur shelter home. The court of District Magistrate Mohammad Sohail also passed an order Monday, asking the other members of the NGO to furnish the details of their assets, including ancestral properties. The court thus initiated the seizure process of the assets of the other members of the NGO in the light of the Supreme Court order in connection with the case. Sushil Kumar Modi slams Thakor over attacks on migrant workers

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi Tuesday slammed Gujarat Congress MLA Alpesh Thakor on the issue of recent attacks on Hindi speaking migrants in the state, saying that people of the country have the right to work in whichever state they want. Consider medical assistance for prisoners, HC tells TN govt

The Madras High Court Tuesday directed the Tamil Nadu government to consider providing medical care to the state's prison inmates, including those suffering from mental illnesses. A Division Bench, comprising Justice M Sathyanarayanan and Justice P Rajamanickam passed the order after going through a report by advocate R Vaigai, appointed as amicus curiae to look into the medical facilities available in prisons. The report said there were prisoners with ailments, including mental illness, and sought a direction to extend care and assistance to them. Taking note, the bench directed the Tamil Nadu Health Secretary to consider providing medical care to the inmates of all prisons including the undertrials and file a comprehensive report by December 13. The amicus curiae, referring to Model Prison Manual, 2016, said the prison department must ensure that the inmates interact freely with the board of visitors, comprising official and non-official members at district and sub-divisional level .

Man commits suicide in outer Delhi

A 34-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan of his house in outer Delhi's Mianwali Nagar, police said Tuesday. The man, identified as Gaurav Goyal, allegedly committed suicide on October 31, they said. He left a suicide note in which he has accused his in-laws of allegedly "forcing" him to stay with them and also keeping him away from his eight-year-old son, police said. In his suicide note, Goyal wrote he got married on April 29, 2009. On July 30, his wife left his house after taking cash and jewellery and started staying with her parents, he wrote. A purported video recorded before he allegedly took the extreme step was shared by his family to media Tuesday, they said. Police said they will check the authenticity of the video. On October 31, police received information regarding the alleged incident, said a senior police official. An investigation into the incident is underway, police said.
