Air India appoints Ravindra Kumar as chief human resources officer

Air India on Friday said Ravindra Kumar G P will take over as the airline's Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) from April 1. Kumar, who is currently with Tata Motors, will replace Suresh Dutt Tripathi who is retiring from the airline. "Following a long career with General Electric Company, the last four years of which as CHRO for South Asia, Ravi joins from Tata Motors Ltd where he has held the role of President & CHRO since 2018," the airline said in a release. Kumar will report to Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson. "At the same time as welcoming Ravi, we acknowledge the outstanding contribution of Suresh who, upon Air India's privatization, answered the call and has played a vital role over the last two years," Wilson said. Tata group took over the reins of loss-making Air India in January 2022.

Tata Motors total vehicle sales climb 6% to 86,125 units in January

Tata Motors on Thursday said it has reported a 6 per cent year-on-year increase in its total vehicle sales (including international markets) at 86,125 units in January. The company had sold a total of 81,069 vehicles in January last year, according to a statement. During the last month, total domestic sales stood at 84,276 units as against 79,681 units in January 2023, logging a 6 per cent year-on-year growth. At the same time, total commercial vehicle sales declined 2 per cent to 32,090 units in the previous month from 32,780 vehicles in January last year, it said. The total passenger vehicle domestic sales, including EVs, grew 12 per cent to 53,633 units in the month as compared to 47,987 vehicles a year ago.

Tata group and France's Airbus to manufacture helicopters together

India and France have firmed up a defence industrial partnership roadmap that would provide for co-development and co-production of key military hardware and platforms and facilitate technology collaboration in a range of areas including space, land warfare, cyberspace and artificial intelligence. Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra, announcing key outcomes of the talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron in Jaipur last night, also said the Tatas and Airbus Helicopters have entered into a partnership for production of H125 choppers with significant indigenous components. At a media briefing Friday, Kwatra said the India-France defence industrial roadmap would also facilitate cooperation in areas of robotics, autonomous vehicles and cyber defence. He said an MoU was sealed between New Space India Ltd and France's Arianespace for cooperation in satellite launches. Tata Motors to commence EV production at Sanand plant from April 2024

Tata Motors plans to commence production of electric vehicles at the Sanand plant, acquired from Ford India, from April this year, as per a top company official. Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd, a unit of Tata Motors, acquired the facility from Ford India for Rs 725.7 crore in January last year. "We are planning to commence electric vehicle production at Sanand with Nexon EV from April," Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles MD Shailesh Chandra told PTI. The company has already commenced production of internal combustion engine-powered versions of the Nexon at the manufacturing plant with an installed capacity of 3 lakh units per annum. It can be further scaled up to 4.2 lakh units per annum. Chandra said the company is also looking to produce upcoming models at the facility. Tata Motors to hike passenger vehicle prices, including EVs, from Feb 1

Tata Motors on Sunday said it will increase prices of its entire passenger vehicle range, including EVs, by an average of 0.7 per cent with effect from next month. This increase will be effective February 1, 2024, and is being taken to partially offset the rise in input cost, Tata Motors said in a statement. The company sells a range of passenger vehicles including Punch, Nexon and Harrier.

Zero-emission cars can tackle air pollution, cut oil imports: Tata Motors

Only zero emission cars can contribute towards a reduction in air pollution, cutting burgeoning fuel imports and attaining net zero targets, according to Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Managing Director Shailesh Chandra. Amid demands from a certain section of the industry to cut taxes levied on hybrid cars, Chandra said that such vehicles do not align with the key national objectives of achieving net carbon-zero target, improving air quality levels, and reducing fossil fuel imports. He noted that hybrid and CNG technologies in cars help in improving fuel efficiency and meeting emission-related regulatory compliances but cannot be compared with pure battery electric vehicles. In an interaction with PTI, Chandra said that the government already supports hybrid vehicles in terms of lower taxation and there is no need to bring those at par with electric vehicles. EV industry sales growth to moderate to 40-45% this year: Tata Motors

Tata Motors expects the industry sales growth of electric vehicles in India to moderate to 40-45 per cent this year with the base becoming bigger, a top company official said on Wednesday. The company, which launched Punch.ev on Wednesday, plans to introduce four more EV models this year, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd & Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd Managing Director Shailesh Chandra said. It is expecting to grow faster than the industry EV growth rate, he added. "Two years back, EVs were growing on a very low base. In the last calendar year, it had a growth of nearly 100 per cent but now the base is getting bigger. By the end of this financial year, it will be around 90,000 to 1 lakh. On this high base, I think the growth (industry) would moderate to about 40 per cent to 45 per cent," Chandra said.
