Tata Motors on Friday said it has commenced production at its new production facility at Sanand in Gujarat. Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd, a unit of Tata Motors, had acquired the facility from Ford India for Rs 725.7 crore in January last year. "We have successfully retooled the factory in the shortest span of 12 months, taking it to a new level to accommodate a wide range of existing products and future new models to come," Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) MD Shailesh Chandra said in a statement. The facility will play a pivotal role in steering Tata Motors, especially TPEM, towards achieving newer feats, he added. "With existing capacities near saturation, this new facility will unlock an additional manufacturing capacity of 3 lakh units per annum which is scalable to 4.2 lakh units per annum," Chandra said. Tata Motors on Tuesday said its global wholesales, including that of Jaguar Land Rover, rose 9 per cent year-on-year to 3,38,177 units in the December quarter. Global wholesales of Tata Motors' commercial vehicles and Tata Daewoo range in October-December period of FY24 were at 98,679 units, up 1 per cent over third quarter of FY23, the company said in a regulatory filing. The company's global sales of all passenger vehicles, including electrical vehicles, were at 1,38,455 units, up 5 per cent year-on-year. Global wholesales for Jaguar Land Rover were 27 per cent higher at 1,01,043 units. Jaguar wholesales for the quarter stood at 12,149 vehicles, while Land Rover wholesales for the quarter were at 88,894 vehicles.
Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) plans to make investments worth Rs 70,800 crore for renewable energy projects in Tamil Nadu. The company, part of Tata Power, has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Tamil Nadu government to support the development of the state's renewable energy landscape and accelerate the country's clean energy transition, a regulatory filing said on Tuesday. The MoUs were signed on Monday. Under the first MoU, TPREL plans to explore opportunities to develop 10,000 MW of renewable energy power projects across solar, wind, hybrid, RTC (Round The Clock), peak, Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) over the next five to seven years. These renewable projects will be located over 50,000 acres of land in Tamil Nadu with an investment potential of nearly Rs 70,000 crore. Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover on Monday reported a 27 per cent rise in total wholesales at 1,01,043 units in the third quarter ended December 31, 2023, as compared to the year-ago period. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) delivered the highest wholesales in 11 quarters during the period, a statement by JLR shared on BSE by Tata Motors said. Year-to-date wholesales for FY24 were 2,91,113 units, up 28 per cent year-on-year, it added. The order book continues to reflect strong demand for JLR products with 1.48 lakh client orders at the end of the third quarter. This has reduced from 1.68 lakh at the end of the second quarter, reflecting increased order fulfilment to clients and resulting in improved client waiting times for the vehicles, JLR said. Demand for Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Defender remains particularly strong, representing 76 per cent of the order book, it added.
