Amazon says some customer email addresses exposed
Amazon on Wednesday said that a website glitch accidentally exposed names and email addresses of some of the e-commerce giant's customers. Amazon declined to disclose the extent of the software slip-up. "We have fixed the issue and informed customers who may have been impacted," an Amazon spokesman said in response to an AFP inquiry. There was no breach of Amazon systems or its website, and passwords were kept safe, according to the company. As a precaution, messages were sent to customers affected by the website mishap letting them know their names and email addresses may have been disclosed by the Amazon website. Facebook appeals GBP 500,000 data breach scandal fine by UK watchdog
Social media giant Facebook on Wednesday said it has filed an appeal against the 500,000 pound fine slapped on it by the UK's independent data watchdog for serious breaches of data protection law imposed last month. The fine amount by the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) was the maximum it is authorised to issue. It relates to the US social media giant's role in the Cambridge Analytica data scandal, which hit the headlines earlier this year. However, Facebook says that because the regulator found no evidence that UK users' personal data had been shared inappropriately, the penalty of 500,000 pounds was unjustified. Haryana enhances DA by 6 per cent for govt employees
The Haryana government has enhanced dearness allowance by 6 per cent for the state government employees, who were drawing their pay in the pre-revised pay scale or grade as per the 6th Pay Commission. The DA has been enhanced from the existing rate of 142 per cent to 148 per cent of the basic pay, with effect from July 1, 2018. India must have "fundamental rethink" on satellite communication policy to meet rising connectivity needs that are being fuelled by mobile data growth, digital aspirations and advent of new-age technologies, Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan said Wednesday. The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Wednesday launched an all-new version of its multi-purpose-vehicle, Ertiga with price starting at Rs 7.44 lakh, hotting up competition in the mass market MPV segment. Cyber crime cases on rise in Maharashtra: Govt
Cyber crime is posing a big challenge for police in Maharashtra with the state witnessing a rise in such cases this year as compared to 2017, according to official figures. A total of 2,945 cases of cyber crimes were registered till September this year as against 2,645 till October 2017, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio, said in a written reply in the state Assembly on Tuesday. He said the maximum number of cyber crime cases were reported in Mumbai, though the figures were not specified in the written reply. So far, 43 cyber labs have been declared as cyber police stations. Of these, 36 cyber police stations are functioning and the remaining seven will be operational soon, he said. The cyber police stations have been provided with modern software and hardware technology tools, he said, adding that since 2016, 198 police officials have been imparted training on how to deal with cyber crimes.
