WhatsApp in collaboration with Reliance Jio will run an educational campaign to teach people on safe and responsible usage of its messaging platform. "WhatsApp and Jio have started an educational campaign across India with the goal of showing people how to use WhatsApp on JioPhone to connect with friends and family in a simple, secure, and reliable way," WhatsApp said in a statement. The campaign will start from October 9 . "As part of the campaign, there will be events at each city to show people how to use WhatsApp safely and responsibly," the statement said. Facebook-owned WhatsApp has been under fire from the Indian government over fake news and false information being circulated on its messaging platform. Such messages have incited mob fury, triggering multiple cases of lynching across the country.
Officials in Bihar will not be allowed to carry their mobile phones in high-level meetings, a government circular said. According to the circular issued on Thursday, "it has often been noticed that while attending high-level meetings, officials keep talking over mobile phones. This prevents the meetings from proceeding smoothly". In view of this, a decision has been taken that mobile phones will not be allowed in offices or conference halls where high-level meetings (chaired by chief minister, other ministers, chief secretary, development commissioner among others) are held, the circular signed by Principal Secretary Amir Subhani said.

The Bihar Government on Thursday issued orders prohibiting officials from carrying cell phones at 'high-level' meetings.In an order issued by Aamir Subhani, principal secretary, general administration department, the official has directed all principal secretaries and police officials to resist from using cell phones while attending meetings.The concerned directive underscored that no official will be allowed to carry their cell phones in the meetings chaired by the Chief Minister, department ministers, chief secretary, development commissioner and other senior officials.The notification asserted that the decision has been taken in the wake of officials often being found busy in their mobile phones during crucial meetings, thus creating hindrance in smooth conduct of the meetings.Earlier, in June this year, Karnataka Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy had directed all officials and government staff to not use mobile phones during his meetings in order to avoid distraction.
Tiny chips inserted in US computer equipment manufactured in China were used as part of a vast effort by Beijing to steal US technology secrets, a published report said Thursday. The Bloomberg News report said the chips, the size of a grain of rice, were used on equipment made for Amazon, which first alerted US authorities, and Apple, and possibly for other companies and government agencies. Bloomberg said a three-year secret investigation, which remains open, enabled spies to create a "stealth doorway" into computer equipment, a hardware-based entry that would be more effective and harder to detect than a software hack. With hackers targeting online remittances and cyber crimes across India rising 44 per cent between 2013 and 2017, engineering exporters body, EEPC India has started sensitising and training exporters. To safeguard money transfers, the EEPC in cooperation with cyber experts from the police and forensic institutions, organised a workshop for the first time in Kolkata on Thursday. The event brought face to face the cyber and forensic science experts and exporters. The RBI has registered a total of 12,520 cases of frauds involving credit cards during the quarter ending September 2017. Addressing the meeting, EEPC India chairman Ravi Sehgal said, "We at EEPC India receive cases where exporters' accounts are hacked or we get complaints from exporters for non-receipt of remittances for cross border transactions." Experts from Kolkata Police, Central Forensic Science Laboratory and ICICI Bank participated in the workshop.

A Rs 150 crore Mi LED TV manufacuring plant of Chinese electronics major Xiaomi was inaugurated at nearby Renigunta Thursday by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu as part of his plans to make the temple town an electronic hub of the country. The plant, operated by Xiaomis technology partner Dixon Technologies (India) Limited, would also manufacture closed-circuit television cameras, digital video recorders, smart phones. Set up at a cost of Rs 150 crore at the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster, the plant is expected to employ 800 people, according to officials. Naidu said his vision was to make Tirupati the electronics manufacturing hub of the country and Special Employment Zone by bringing in more domestic and multi-national software and hardware units. It would also be developed into a lake city as there were several lakes here, he added.
