Quality of telecom services will deteriorate in central Delhi due to the new norms notified by New Delhi Municipal Corporation, telecom infrastructure body DIPA claimed on Saturday. Digital Infrastructure Providers Association (DIPA) has opposed the charges for existing and new mobile towers as well as multiple layers of clearances on case to case basis notified by NDMC on June 22. "The quality of telecom connectivity is definitely going to be impacted and may also get deprived due to the restrictions imposed by the NDMC," DIPA said in a statement. According to a report by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on the quality of mobile phone services for March 2023, Airtel call centre service did not meet the service quality benchmark in almost all of the telecom circles. Customer care of BSNL and Vodafone Idea (VIL) failed to meet quality parameters in some circles. "It is pertinent to mention that though all the service providers have met the network service quality-related benchmarks but there may be a few pockets or some days where users might experience poor quality or service since these benchmarks are measured on an average basis and assessed over the entire LSA (license service area or telecom circle) for a given quarter," Trai said in the report. India's largest telecom operator Reliance Jio added 30.5 lakh mobile subscribers in March, accelerating its momentum of February, while Vodafone Idea lost 12.12 lakh wireless users during the month, according to data released by telecom regulator TRAI. Sunil Mittal-led telecom company Bharti Airtel onborded 10.37 lakh mobile subscribers in March, raising its subscriber base to 37.09 crores in March against 36.98 crores in February. Telecom regulator Trai on Friday clarified the issue related to tariff plan verification, saying there is no special drive being undertaken by it to probe all the past tariff plans filed by telecom companies "except those specific plans under examination". On receipt of "specific complaints" of alleged predation by a few TSPs, the matter is under examination and "appropriate action as per regulatory provisions will be taken", the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) said in a clarificatory note. Trai said any tariff may be subjected to fresh examination as per the statutory mandate of the authority on receipt of a complaint of non-compliance to regulatory principles, including the allegation of predatory nature of tariff by any stakeholder, including telcos.
