Nepal's tourism bounces back, receives nearly 700,000 tourists in 9 months

Nepal received around 7 lakh tourists in the first nine months of 2023 as the Himalayan nation gradually recovers from the onslaught of the coronavirus pandemic, according to official data. The data released by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) said a total of 692,372 tourists entered the country by air from January to September this year. We have achieved 98 per cent recovery in tourist arrival in September this year, said Mani Lama, director of Nepal Tourism Board. The government has set a target of bringing in one million foreign tourists in 2023. In September alone, 91,012 tourists visited Nepal, of which 28,694 tourists came from India, 8,174 from China, 7,364 from America, and 3,716 tourists came from Bangladesh. Meanwhile, 3,685 tourists came from Australia, 3, 640 from the United Kingdom, 3,011 from Sri Lanka, 2, 852 from Germany, 2,018 from South Korea and 1,0734 from Israel visited the Himalayan nation in September. Last year, only 58,314 tourists visited during the same .

Union Minister Shripad Naik reviews preparations for G20 meets on tourism

Union Minister of state for Tourism Shripad Naik on Friday conducted a comprehensive review of the preparations for the fourth G20 Tourism Working Group meeting and Tourism Ministerial meeting in Goa. The meeting is scheduled to be held from June 19-22. The Union minister expressed satisfaction with the arrangements made for the important gatherings, a government spokesperson said. Senior officials Venkatesan Dhattareyan, regional director of the western and central region at IndiaTourism Mumbai Office, and Sanjit Rodrigues, the G20 nodal officer for Goa government, were present for the review. The Tourism Working Group meeting and Tourism Ministerial meeting will provide an excellent opportunity to showcase Goan traditions and cultures to the world, the official said. India's domestic tourism growth will continue to be strong and will be further fuelled by inbound travels through the country's presidency of G20, conferences and exhibitions that are now increasingly held here, according to Thomas Cook (India) Chairman and Managing Director Madhavan Menon. On the other hand, long-haul outbound travels from India are also expected to pick up with the onset of summer in Europe and the US, he told PTI. "Domestic tourism is here to stay and the reality is that we're going to see more and more activity in the domestic space without a doubt," Menon said when asked if the strong growth in domestic tourism witnessed post COVID would sustain. India's tourism industry is on track to reach USD 1 trillion by 2047, with data-led tourism set to be a key driver of growth, according to a report. The report by digital payments player Visa Inc. and professional services firm EY titled "Charting the Course for India Tourism Megatrends Unpacked," takes a long-term view of India's tourism industry, beyond the pandemic's impact, and identifies mega-trends expected to shape the sector over the next decade. It highlighted that international tourists in India spend 26x more than domestic, hence attracting global visitors is key. India received 6.19 million foreign tourists in 2022: Tourism minister

India received 6.19 million Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in 2022 as compared to 1.52 million during the same period in 2021, Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy said Thursday. There were 10.93 million Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in India during the pre-pandemic year of 2019, Reddy said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha. "Tourism Industry has shown good signs of revival after Covid-19 pandemic. According to the latest information received from the Bureau of Immigration, India received 6.19 million Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) during 2022 as compared to 1.52 million during the same period of 2021," he said. He said that the ministry under its schemes such as Swadesh Darshan and Pilgrimage Rejuvenation And Spiritual Augmentation Drive , or PRASAD, provides financial assistance to state governments and Union Territories for the development of tourism-related infrastructure to enrich tourism experience for the visitors. Revenge travel drives more visa applications from Kolkata; 85% of pre-covid

The visa application volume from Kolkata has reached 85 per cent of the pre-pandemic level as travellers from here give vent to revenge travel' made easier by the re-opening up of borders and easing of COVID restrictions, according to a visa outsourcing firm. Prabuddha Sen, Chief Operating Officer (South Asia) of VFS Global, said the volume showed a 160 per cent rise in 2022 as compared to 2021. This is higher than the Indian average as a whole. On a pan-India average, the volume of visa applications reached 80 per cent of the pre-pandemic level and witnessed a 140 per cent rise in 2022 when compared to 2021, he said. We witnessed unprecedented demand from India in 2022, which led to an extended peak outbound travel season with steady volumes witnessed until December. There is an urgent need to allocate a special budget for improving the existing tourist places in and around Shimla, the Tourism Industry Stakeholders Association (TISHA) said in a release here today."The stay of tourists in Shimla has decreased to one day.
