Empty rake of local train derails near Mumbai; no casualty, train ops hit

An empty rake of a local train derailed at Ambernath railway yard in Maharashtra's Thane district adjoining Mumbai on Sunday morning, disrupting train operations on the route, officials said. No one was injured in the incident, which took place about 50 km away from Mumbai, they said. According to a Central Railway official, one trolley wheel of a coach of an empty rake "derailed in siding" at 8.25 am. Train operations were affected as the derailed coach was infringing down the main line from Kalyan to Karjat station, the official said. The derailment occurred when the train was coming to Ambernath station from the siding or yard line, sources said. It was an empty EMU (electric multiple unit) rake derailment and no passenger was on board. There was no casualty, Central Railway's chief public relations officer Dr Shivraj Manaspure said. Railways to launch Vande Bharat trains on five more routes from June 26

Railways will start operating Vande Bharat trains on five more routes from June 26, the first launch after the three-train accident in Odisha on June 2 that claimed 288 lives. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to launch the semi-high-speed trains via video conferencing. The routes on which the five trains will run are - Mumbai-Goa, Bangalore-Hubli, Patna-Ranchi, Bhopal-Indore and Bhopal-Jabalpur. The railway ministry had cancelled the launch of the Mumbai-Goa Vande Bharat train after the Odisha tragedy. This is the first time that five Vande Bharat trains will start operations on the same day. While such launches in the past have seen a lot of fanfare, it will be a relatively austere event this time in view of the Odisha accident.

The Neral-Matheran narrow gauge 'toy train' will remain suspended between June 10 to October 15 for safety reasons, the Central Railway said on Tuesday. Railways' premier production unit, the Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala, failed to deliver even one Vande Bharat train in 2022-23 against a projected target of 32, documents have revealed, with the unit blaming its suppliers for not providing electrical components for the train sets. The failure of the factory to achieve its targets, sources indicated, could affect the Railways' ambitious plans of running 75 Vande Bharat trains by August 2024. The coach factory did not just fall short of its target to produce Vande Bharat trains, but also in the overall the production of all kinds of coaches. Railways restores fare of AC 3-tier economy class travel in trains

Railways on Wednesday issued an order to restore the fare for AC 3-tier economy class travel which had been withdrawn in November last year when it was merged with AC 3-tier. Despite the restoration in price, Railways will continue offering linen to passengers, the order indicated. The present order has withdrawn an earlier circular in which the fare for AC 3-tier economy class ticket had been made equal to the fare of an AC 3-tier ticket. The reason for the merger was stated to be the cost of linen which was initially not provided in the economy air conditioned class. According to the order, passengers who have booked tickets online and over the counter will be given a refund of the extra amount for the pre-booked tickets. The railways, while introducing the 3E as a class in September 2021, had announced that fares in these newly-introduced coaches will be 6-8 per cent less than normal AC 3 coaches, pitching the class of travel as the "best and cheapest AC travel service" in the .

Railway meting out injustice to managers in terms of pay: Employees' union

The Railway Board is treating train drivers and managers in the "most inhuman manner" and meting out injustice to them in terms of their pay and duty hours, its largest employees' union alleged as it staged protests across the country on Monday. All India Railwaymen's Federation (AIRF) general secretary Shiva Gopal Mishra demanded that the authorities address the long-pending demands and grievances of the "running staff" without any further delay as there is a serious sense of disappointment and resentment brewing among them. With the electrification of two key routes, the northeastern state of Meghalaya will see the operation of electric trains for the first time, the Railways said in a statement. The Indian Railways is set to launch its first Bharat Gaurav train to the northeast on March 21 which will offer passengers a tour of the region, the Ministry of Railways said in a statement on Saturday. The 15-day tour will cover Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Tripura and Meghalaya. "The much sought-after train tour 'North East Discovery: Beyond Guwahati' is ready to depart on March 21, 2023 from Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station on a 14 nights/15 days itinerary. "State-of-the-art Deluxe AC Tourist Train with AC I & AC II class will accommodate total 156 tourists," the statement said.
