Northeast's second largest air cargo terminal opened in Tripura's Agartala

Northeast India's second largest air cargo terminal was inaugurated at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala by Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Friday. The largest such facility in the region exists at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati. The new building was constructed at a cost of Rs 17 crore and cargo handling facility at the airport was restored after being shut since December 4 last year due to the absence of security vetting by regulatory body, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). The suspension of services had caused inconvenience to traders as well as postal service. "Today I inaugurated the domestic air cargo terminal, which will play a pivotal role in flourishing the state's economy. Tripura has witnessed massive growth in connectivity over the last few years. Govt working on enhancing opportunities in higher education: CM Manik Saha

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday said his government has been working on enhancing opportunities in higher education so that students do not need to go outside the state to pursue higher studies. He also stressed on the quality of education and urged students to be attentive in classrooms and participate in discussion, debate and other co-curricular activities. At present, the state has one central university and one state varsity besides a private university. One is being set up by a private party. Two medical colleges are working and admission will start in dental college in the coming academic session," the CM said. Tea planters suffering from shortage, crop loss, falling prices in Tripura

Tea planters in Tripura are witnessing a "shortage" in production due to a prolonged dry spell in the northeastern state with "falling" prices of the crop creating pressure on margins, stakeholders said on Sunday. Tea plantations, the second largest industry in the state after rubber, are facing "crop loss" this season due to a drought-like situation, Tripura Tea Development Corporation (TTDC) chairman Santosh Saha said. Our production has been hit due to drought-like conditions. There is a shortage of leaves, and the volume in the auction market has also come down. It is a difficult situation for us to get profit," he told PTI. State-run TTDC has five estates and two manufacturing units with an annual production capacity of eight lakh kg. Tripura to host G20 conclave on clean energy from Monday: CM Manik Saha

Union minister Pratima Bhoumik, who had recently contested and won elections from Dhanpur seat, resigned on Wednesday as the member of legislative assembly (MLA). Three people were arrested in connection with the attack on a parliamentary delegation of the Left and the Congress in Tripura's Sepahijala district, police said on Saturday. The delegation, comprising Left and Congress MPs, was attacked in Nehalchandranagar, a border village of Bishalgarh subdivision, on Friday when it was visiting areas affected by post-poll violence. "Three persons have been arrested so far, and steps are being taken to apprehend the others involved in the attack. Manik Saha gets second term as Tripura CM, swearing-in on March 8

Manik Saha was named as the next chief minister of the northeastern state of Tripura at a meeting of the BJP legislative party held here on Monday. A spokesperson of the BJP informed reporters after the meeting that the selection was unanimously endorsed by all MLAs of the party.
