Fifteen people were arrested on Saturday for allegedly planning to use unfair means in the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board exam for recruitment of constables. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Dhananjay Kushwaha said, "We have arrested these men for planning to use unfair means in the exam. The accused are being questioned. The arrest was made by the surveillance team of the Kotwali police station." The officer declined to comment on the modus operandi of the arrested accused. Police and local administration across the state are on alert in the wake of the exam being held on Saturday and Sunday. The Supreme Court on Monday extended the interim bail granted to Union minister Ajay Kumar Mishra's son Ashish Mishra in the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence which claimed eight lives. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and K V Viswanathan directed the apex court registry to obtain a report from the trial court on the progress of the case and adjourned the matter. The Uttar Pradesh Information Commission has issued an arrest warrant against four power department officials for ignoring an RTI query related to a Rs 2.24-lakh bill against a connection issued in 1911, and also disobeying the panel's summonses, officials have said. The arrest warrant was issued recently against Superintending Engineer Anil Verma, Executive Engineer R K Gautam, Sub Divisional Officer Sarvesh Yadav and Sub Divisional Officer Ravi Anand. State Information Commissioner Ajaya Kumar Uprety said the warrant was issued under section 18 (3) of the Right to Information Act and powers given in the CPC (Civil Procedure Code) 1908. The Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Friday passed the Indian Stamp (Uttar Pradesh Amendment) Bill-2024, which has a provision that the transfer of a property between blood relatives can be done by paying a stamp duty of Rs 5,000. Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna piloted the bill. He said the purchase and sale of land was done by making 'power of attorney', due to which there was loss of revenue. For example, the business of selling land worth crores of rupees by making 'power of attorney' at a nominal fee was going on in full swing, but now a provision has been made that people outside blood relations will have to pay stamp duty of seven per cent of the circle rate on the power of attorney, he said. This condition will not apply to 'power of attorney' only for the maintenance of lands. With a view to provide world-class training to athletes at residential sports hostels, the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday proposed in the next fiscal's budget hiring of 50 international trainers. The state budget has proposed Rs 195 crore for the development of sports infrastructure in various districts, which is 67 per cent more than the current year. The state government said that 50 international players will be enlisted for training of sportsmen at an honorarium of Rs 1.5 lakh per month, state's finance minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said. He said Rs 50 crore is proposed for the construction of sports infrastructure with private participation in the state and Rs 50 crore for to reward the victorious players in national and international competitions. He said Rs 12 crore is proposed for the setting up of a sports science and injury centre.
The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated Rs 1,150 crore for the upcoming Noida International Airport at GautamBuddha Nagar in the budget for 2024-25. The announcement was made by UP's Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna as he tabled the budget for the fiscal year in the state assembly on Monday. "A provision of Rs 1,150 crore is proposed for the establishment of an international airport and the purchase of land in Jewar of GautamBuddha Nagar district," Khanna said.
