NASA confirms Perseverance rover's safe landing on Mars

New Delhi, Feb 19 (ANI): American space agency, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced that its Perseverance rover has landed on Mars. "Perseverance rover has safely landed on Mars," NASA said in a tweet. Perseverance, which was launched on July 30, 2020, will search for signs of ancient microbial life, collect carefully selected rock and regolith (broken rock and dust) samples for a future return to Earth. It will characterise Mars' geology and climate, and pave the way for human exploration beyond the Moon. This is NASA's fifth Mars rover and agency's ninth mission for the Red planet. The Mars 2020 Perseverance rover is also carrying along a technology experiment - the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter - which will attempt the first powered and controlled flight on another planet.

Petrol price crosses Rs 100-mark in this district of MP

Anuppur (MP), Feb 19 (ANI): After Rajasthan, petrol price crossed Rs 100 per litre mark in Madhya Pradesh's Anuppur district on February 18. Premium petrol which attracts higher taxes, had crossed Rs 100 mark in states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. In MP's Anuppur petrol is priced at Rs 100.25 per litre and diesel at Rs 90.35 per litre. Commuters expressed disappointment after the price hike. Petrol in the national capital costs Rs 89.88 per litre and diesel Rs 80.27 per litre after February 18 price hike. In Mumbai, petrol price rose to Rs 96.32 per litre and diesel was priced at Rs 87.32 per litre.

Unnao girls' death case: Prima facie shows symptoms of poisoning, says Lucknow IG

Unnao (UP), Feb 18 (ANI): IG Range Lucknow, Laxmi Singh said that prima facie showed there are symptoms of poisoning in the Unnao case where two girls were found dead at the agriculture field. "We have registered FIR on basis of whatever was told by the family of victims. They told that a lot of froth was found at the spot and then they were taken to the hospital. Prima facie showed there are symptoms of poisoning. No injury mark or assault signs were shown at the bodies. Further matter will be cleared post forensic report," said IG Laxmi Singh. Two girls of the same family were found dead in their agriculture field in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district while one other is in critical condition. The incident occurred on evening of February 17. The girl who was found in critical condition has been hospitalised for medical treatment.

Over 98 lakh beneficiaries vaccinated against COVID till Feb 18

New Delhi, Feb 18 (ANI): "98,46,523 beneficiaries have been vaccinated till 6pm on February 18," informs Union Health Ministry Joint Secretary Mandeep Singh Bhandari. Of the total, over 66 lakh healthcare workers have been given the vaccine shot. "62,34,635 healthcare workers have been given the first dose while 4,64,932 healthcare workers have been given the second dose. Vaccination drive for frontline workers which started from February 02 has so far vaccinated 31,46,956 beneficiaries," informed Joint Secretary Mandeep Singh Bhandari. Health Ministry further informed that in the last 24 hours, two new events of hospitalisation have been reported in West Bengal, of which one case of convulsions while the second case is of anaphylaxis. "Condition of both patients is stable," Ministry added.

BJP will succeed in forming govt again in Assam: Narendra Singh Tomar

Guwahati (Assam), Feb 18 (ANI): While addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on February 18 said due to pro-incumbency, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win Assam Assembly polls and form the government in the state again. He said, "Due to pro-incumbency, BJP will win more seats in the Assembly polls (in Assam). People of Assam have witnessed what was happening 5 years ago. Instead of anti-incumbency, pro-incumbency is being seen in Assam. This is a very good sign for BJP and I am hopeful that BJP will succeed in forming the government again."

BJP announces 33% reservation in govt jobs for women in WB if they come in power

South 24 Parganas (WB): Home Minister Amit Shah at the launch of fifth Poribortan Yatra in Kakdwip of South 24 Parganas district announced that BJP govt will provide more than 33% reservation to women in West Bengal. He further announced that around 4 lakh fishermen will get Rs 6,000 under one of the schemes that the Bengal government will introduce.

No law, order in WB: Adhir Chowdhury on bomb attack on Jakir Hossain

Kolkata, Feb 18 (ANI): Speaking on the bomb attack on West Bengal Labour Minister Jakir Hossain, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on February 18 said there is no law and order in WB, no person is safe in the state. He said, "There is no law and order in West Bengal. No person is safe in this state. NIA should conduct an investigation into the incident." State Labour Minister suffered injuries, after unidentified people hurled a bomb at him in Murshidabad on Feb 17.

Uttarakhand glacier burst: 60 bodies recovered, 27 body parts retrieved, says DGP

Dehradun (Uttarakhand), Feb 18 (ANI): Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar on February 18 informed that one body and a body part have been recovered from Tapovan tunnel, while a body found from Raini village's north side today following glacier burst. "1 body and a body part recovered from Tapovan tunnel while a body found from Raini village's north side today. Body count is at 60 now. 27 body parts have been retrieved so far. Search and rescue op will go on for long time as large amount of debris and mud stocked inside," he said to ANI. A glacier broke in the Tapovan- Raini area of Chamoli District of Uttarakhand on Feb 07, which led to massive flooding in Dhauliganga and Alaknanda Rivers and damaged houses and the nearby Rishiganga power project.

We'll harvest as well as protest: Rakesh Tikait

Hisar (Haryana), Feb 18 (ANI): Spokesperson of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Rakesh Tikait addressed a rally in Kharak Punia village of Hisar district in Haryana on February 18 where he said that they will harvest and protest against new farm laws together and won't end the demonstration. "Centre should not be under any misconception that farmers will go back for crop harvesting. If they insisted, then we will burn our crops. They shouldn't think that protest will end in 2 months. Amit Shah arrives in Kolkata to flag off 5th phase of Poriborton Yatra today

Kolkata, Feb 18 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Kolkata for a visit to the state where Assembly polls are scheduled to be held later this year. Shah reached Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at around 12:30 am today. During his Kolkata tour, he will visit Bharat Sevashram Sangha and Kapil Muni Ashram. Later, he will flag-off BJP's Poribortan Yatra and hold a roadshow from Kali Mandir to SBI, Kakdwip branch, and South 24 Parganas. He is also scheduled to visit Aurobindo Bhavan in the evening. Shah had earlier arrived in the state on February 11. The tenure of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal will come to an end on May 30, 2021. The upcoming state elections in the state are slated to take place for 294 Assembly seats.

1% conviction rate in 140 sedition cases in 6 years: Rajya Sabha MP

Bengaluru, Feb 17 (ANI): "In past 6 years, 140 sedition cases registered out of which conviction rate has been around 1%," according to Congress Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Syed Nasir Hussain. "In the last 6 years, 140 sedition cases registered against Indian citizens but the conviction rate has been around 1%. They just want to see that nobody speaks or agitate against govt and create some sort of fear mongering among the common citizens," said RS MP Hussain.

With this the total death count has mounted to 29, which accounts 0.0003% of the total vaccination carried out. Mandeep Kumar Bhandari said, "Deaths which have been reported in the hospital are 12 in number and those which have been reported outside hospital are 17. There is one new death which has been reported in the last 24 hours. This is the case of a 24-year-old male, resident of Rishikesh which has been reported.
