Meta could pay up to $16.7 billion to settle a case brought by 29 US states over allegations that its platforms were designed to keep young users hooked and collected data from children. The proposed deal could introduce major changes for teenage users, including two-hour daily limits, overnight restrictions, parental controls and notification curbs. Meta would also have to offer a non-personalised feed and hide like counts for teenagers. The settlement does not amount to an admission of liability.
