Mahindra & Mahindra and Samsung have collaborated to develop digital keys for electric SUVs, integrated with Samsung Wallet, thereby eliminating the need for physical keys, a senior official of the Korean electronics giant said on Wednesday. Samsung India, senior director for services and apps business, Madhur Chaturvedi said Mahindra is the first Indian automobile firm to have taken the initiative, while Samsung Wallet supports the digital keys feature of foreign companies like BMW, BYD, and Mercedes-Benz in India. Vietnam's electric vehicle maker VinFast Auto on Saturday said its two electric SUVs -- VF 7 and VF 6 -- will hit the Indian market later this year to mark its foray into the country, which it says has a huge growth potential. The company, which is investing USD 500 million to set up its manufacturing plant at Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu, expects completion of the facility in the second half of 2025 after which it will launch the products. It is also in talks with the government for its investment in India to be considered for incentives under the new EV policy and is looking to export EVs produced in India to the Middle East and African markets. "We hope that it (Tuticorin plant) will be completed by the end of H1 or H2 beginning of 2025, then we can launch our cars," VinFast Asia CEO Pham Sanh Chau said here in an interaction. Electric mobility startup Pravaig Dynamics on Friday launched a sports utility vehicle Defy, tagged at Rs 39.5 lakh (ex-showroom) to compete with the likes of Audi e-tron and Mercedes Benz EQC . The Bengaluru-based company has commenced the bookings of the model and deliveries are expected to begin from the third quarter of next year. The company aims to produce 10 lakh units by 2028 and cater to both domestic and international markets. "At the beginning we will try to address the domestic market and will look at exports in 2024," Pravaig Chief Strategy Officer Ram Divedi told PTI in an interaction here. In the long run 70 per cent of the production would go into the overseas markets, he added. Divedi said Defy is more affordable to own than other competing products in the market. The SUV comes with a driving range of around 500 km and 402 BHP power, he added. Tata Motors is actively looking at introducing four wheel drive technology in electric versions of its sports utility vehicles going ahead, according to company's passenger vehicle business head Shailesh Chandra. The home-grown auto major currently does not offer four wheel drive trims in any of its existing product range which includes models like Nexon, Harrier and Safari. The company aims to have a portfolio of ten electric products, a mix of existing nameplates and all new models, by 2025. Tata Motors is looking at models above the Nexon range as possible candidates for the four by four (4X4) upgrade. "Our focus will be to try and do that in the electric vehicles. We are going to work on this in the electric version of our future SUVs," Tata Motors Managing Director - Passenger Vehicle and Electric Vehicles - Shailesh Chandra told PTI when asked if the company is also considering four wheel drive trims in its SUV range. Some of the products in the company's expected line up of
