Utkal Alumina International Limited (UAIL), a subsidiary of Hindalco Industries Ltd, has secured Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Standard Certification for its Baphlimali bauxite mine in Odisha's Rayagada district, a company statement said. The ASI is a global sustainability standards and certification organisation for the aluminium value chain. Its performance standard evaluates environmental, social and governance across operations, covering areas such as biodiversity, greenhouse gas emissions, community engagement, human rights, occupational health and safety, and responsible business practices. The statement claimed that UAIL is the first bauxite mine to achieve this certification. The company said that the certification covers the planning, mining, onsite crushing and conveyor transportation of bauxite from the Baphlimali mines, which have an annual production capacity of 8.5 million tonnes. Hindalco Industries on Friday said its consolidated net profit rose over 75 per cent year-on-year to Rs 7,013 crore in the June quarter, driven by increased revenues from aluminium and copper segments. The company had reported a net profit of Rs 4,004 crore in the first quarter of the preceding 2025-26 fiscal, the Aditya Birla Group entity said in an exchange filing. During April-June, the company's total income also increased to Rs 85,882 crore from Rs 64,834 crore in the year-ago period, posting a rise of around 32 per cent. The share of the aluminium upstream segment in the revenue was Rs 13,403 crore while copper's contribution was Rs 17,232 crore. Hindalco Industries will invest Rs 50,000 crore in India over the next three years across upstream and downstream businesses and is evaluating an additional Rs 50,000 crore of growth opportunities, creating a potential Rs 1 lakh crore investment pipeline, its Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla said on Thursday. Speaking at the company's 67th Annual General Meeting, Birla said, "Across our businesses, Hindalco is executing an unprecedented investment to enhance capacities in our mines, upstream and downstream operations in India. We have already earmarked Rs 50,000 crore for strategic growth projects across the value chain. Another Rs 50,000 crore of opportunities are being evaluated." Novelis Inc, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Hindalco Industries, on Tuesday reported a consolidated net loss of USD 84 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2026, due to fire incidents at its plant in Oswego, New York. The company is a leading sustainable aluminium solutions provider and the world leader in aluminium rolling and recycling. "Net loss attributable to our common shareholder of USD 84 million, compared to a net income attributable to our common shareholder of USD 294 million in the prior year, impacted by Oswego, US, plant fires in September and November," the company said in a statement. "The decrease was due primarily to USD 630 million in pre-tax net losses related to the Oswego fires," it added.
