Several infrastructure projects worth above Rs 150 crore each registered a cumulative cost overrun of Rs 5.66 lakh crore, according to a monthly government report for February 2026. The latest 'Flash Report on Central Sector Infrastructure Projects' showed that the revised cost of all 1,948 projects, each valued at Rs 150 crore or higher, monitored by the statistics ministry stood at Rs 41,98,684 crore compared to their original cost of Rs 36,32,088 crore. The report did not specify the actual number of projects that are facing cost overrun. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) stated, in a press release on Wednesday, that as of February 2026, 1,948 ongoing infrastructure projects, with a total revised cost of Rs 41.98 lakh crore, are being monitored across 17 central ministries/departments. Larsen and Toubro on Tuesday said it has secured a "significant" transport infrastructure development project in Dubai, UAE. The order pertains to the Phase-1 of the road development initiative undertaken by the UAE authorities, Larsen and Toubro (L&T) informed the exchanges. L&T did not provide any financial details of the order. According to company classification, a significant order ranges between Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 2,500 crore. The contract has been secured by the Transportation Infrastructure business vertical of the company for the improvement of Latifa Bint Hamdan Street in Dubai. The project is scheduled to be completed in 36 months. The scope of the project includes upgrading the existing road corridor stretching from Emirates Road (E611) to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311). The work involves widening the current two-lane dual carriageway into a four-lane dual carriageway in each direction to enhance network capacity and ease traffic flow.
President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday inaugurated a foot overbridge and an equestrian facility at the Rashtrapati Niketan in Dehradun. The 105-ft-long foot overbridge on Rajpur Road will establish connectivity between Rashtrapati Niketan, an official retreat of the president, and the 132-acre Rashtrapati Udyan, a statement said. The overbridge has become an alternative for pedestrians who can now avoid busier routes. The foot overbridge is constructed by the Uttarakhand Public Works Department as per local Himalayan architecture at a cost of Rs 9 crore. A equestrian facility covering 0.7 acre has been developed at the Rashtrapati Niketan complex. The state-of-the-art facility, built by the Central Public Works Department, includes a stable with space for eight horses, treatment rooms, bathing and feeding rooms, and a dedicated viewing corridor for visitors. Union minister Piyush Goyal said on Sunday that all major hurdles in the Mumbai Coastal Road project, planned to extend up to Virar in Palghar district, have been resolved and that work on it will begin soon. The ambitious Coastal Road now runs from Marine Drive in south Mumbai to Worli, where it connects to the Bandra Worli Sea Link. In later phases, the road will be taken to Versova and then to Virar, which is part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Once completed, the travel time from Nariman Point to Virar is expected to be reduced to just 35 to 40 minutes. All approvals related to the Coastal Road project, including land acquisition, transfer of saltpan lands, and clearances from the Coastal Regulation Zone, Environment Ministry, and Forest Department, have been secured, said Goyal. RITES Ltd, a transport infrastructure consultancy and engineering firm, on Tuesday said it has signed a pact with UAE-based Etihad Rail for business collaboration with its subsidiary National Infrastructure Construction Company. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in this regard, which aims to enhance business collaboration in the mobility and infrastructure sectors across the UAE and other regions, according to a statement. This partnership aims at combining RITES' five decades of expertise in consultancy, transport infrastructure, and engineering solutions with the execution capabilities of National Infrastructure Construction Company, creating synergies for shaping infrastructure projects in the region, the statement said. The Odisha government on Friday approved 25 industrial projects to be built at a cost of Rs 4,739 crore, officials said. The projects were approved during the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja. These projects are likely to create 25,200 jobs in Khurda, Jajpur, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Angul, and Gajapati districts. The latest approvals cover 13 key sectors, including textiles, steel, chemicals, IT, infrastructure, logistics, renewable energy, tourism, cold storage and capital goods. In a statement, the state government said, driven by dynamic governance, strategic foresight, and a robust policy framework that champions ease of doing business, Odisha is fast emerging as the preferred investment destination in India.
