State-run BHEL today said it has developed energy efficient transformers that will also give a boost to environment friendly technologies.
"BHEL developed the country's first 1 mega volt ampere (MVA) transformer manufactured with in-house know-how," a company statement said.
The development of this new transformer will contribute to large-scale reduction in the loss of energy and boost environment friendly technologies, it said.
BHEL achieved nearly 20 per cent (Rs 5,571 crore) of its turnover of Rs 28,033 crore in the last financial year (2008-09) through commercialisation of products and systems developed by the way of in-house research and development efforts.
However, the company did not specify the amount it intends to invest in R&D efforts this fiscal (2009-10).
The company currently manufactures equipment that can generate 10,000 MW of electricity.
