Coal India performance review meeting postponed

Meeting to be chaired by Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal

Press Trust of India New Delhi
The Coal Ministry has postponed a meeting scheduled for tomorrow to review the performance of Coal India, which has missed production targets.

"The meeting to be chaired by Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal, which was to be held tomorrow to review the performance of Coal India has been postponed," a top Coal Ministry official said. The change was due to the minister's engagements elsewhere, he said.

While no new date has been set for the review meeting, it may take place by end of this month or early August, he said.

Coal India (CIL) and its subsidiary companies produced 32.57 million tons (MT) of the fuel in June, or about 92 per cent of the target of 35.23 MT, the company said in a BSE filing on July 2.

The maharatna firm also missed its offtake target of 39.85 MT in June, with sales volumes at 37.09 MT. Output in the April-June quarter was 102.87 MT against a target of 106.88 MT, CIL said.

The state-owned miner had produced 452.5 MT of coal in the previous financial year, compared with a target of 464 MT.

The Coal Ministry had set a production target of 482 MT and offtake of 492 MT for Coal India for 2013-14.
