Coal India (CIL) is likely to fall short of its production target by 7 million tonnes (MT) this year. The government-controlled coal miner will produce 475 MT this year, about 4% higher than the 457 MT produced last year.
Speaking to reporters, CIL chairman S Narsing Rao said, “Our production in the current financial year is likely to fall short of the targeted 482 MT by around 7 MT due to procedural delays in forestry clearances.”
CIL accounts for more than 80% of India's coal output. It produced 289.4 MT from April to November, 5% below its target.
