Domestic car sales rise 6% in August

Domestic passenger car sales rose 6.06% to 1,63,093 units in August from 1,53,781 units in the same month a year ago.

However, motorcycle sales declined 9.59% to 8,23,053 units last month from 9,10,312 units a year ago, according to the data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Total two-wheeler sales in August was down 2.98% to 13,05,350 units as against 13,45,506 units in the same month last year.

Sales of commercial vehicles were up 7.58% to 52,198 units in August, SIAM said.

Vehicle sales across categories registered a decline of 2.07% to 16,26,148 units from 16,60,512 units in August 2014, it added.
