Drone technology start-up Aarav raises funds for team expansion

Company offers cost-effective UAV-based land surveying solutions for civil engineering, infra and utility industries

Cash squeeze could hurt autonomous bodies

Aarav Unmanned Systems, an unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) start-up, has raised an undisclosed amount in a fresh round from StartupXseed Ventures, 3ONE4 Capital, a family fund of Mohandas Pai, the Phoenix Fund and high networth individuals including Ashok Atluri and Sanjay Jesrani.

The capital rose will be used for new product development and team expansion.

Founded in 2013 by Nikhil Upadhye, Suhas Banshiwala,Vipul Singh and Yeshwanth Reddy, Aarav is incubated at the SIDBI Innovation and Incubation Centre (SIIC) at IIT-Kanpur.

It offers cost-effective UAV-based land surveying solutions for the civil engineering, infrastructure and utility industries, precision agriculture solutions to optimise irrigation, fertilisation, pesticide distribution and early failure warnings, thermographic data to detect hot spots and inefficiencies in power transmission lines, solar power plants and critical industries.

"StartupXseed felt Aarav team has the right composition to deliver the business in drone technology area. This technology will become important in the coming years and we are keen to encourage the domestic product for Indian markets and acquire global business," B V Naidu, managing partner at Startup Xseed Ventures, said in a statement on Tuesday.
