eBay India, one of India's leading eCommerce marketplace, today announced the launch of eBay Daily, an online shopping platform for international foods.
After Korea, India is the only country where eBay has started to offer food items on sale on its website.
Among the first few horizontal eCommerce players in India to offer such service, eBay Daily offers customers access to over 1,600 products across 12 categories including biscuits, beverages, breakfast, snacks &nuts, canned & bottled foods, sauces, dessert, soups & noodles and many more across international brands.
"We see a huge opportunity for the international packaged foods product line in the non-metros where the demand is still unmet. On the other hand, our metro consumers will be delighted with the convenience of buying these products online," said Deepa Thomas, eCommerce Evangelist, eBay India. The company did a soft launch of this service in January this year.
"We have received a great response so far. Every 12 minutes we see an order being created on eBay Daily. Beverages are the most bought product, followed by sauces and dressings, snack and lunch and cooking ingredients," said Thomas.
The eBay Daily website offers a handy zoom feature which allows consumers to zoom in and read the packaging details or the expiry date. Customers can add multiple products to the shopping cart and check out together or just buy a single product and pay immediately.
All transactions on eBay Daily will take place via PaisaPay, and will be covered by eBay Guarantee. eBay Daily ships across the country, said the company's press announcement.
eBay Daily is currently offering free shipping on any purchase above Rs 150 until June 30, 2013.
