Ford India will enhance its production level to 2,00,000 units per annum beginning this July, by commencing a second production shift at its manufacturing plant at Maramalainagar, near Chennai.

A company spokesman said the additional shift was to meet the growing demand from the Indian market, especially for its latest model, Figo. Currently, with one shift, Ford India is producing 100,000 units per year.

The company has sold 8,080 units of all models in May as compared to 2,168 units in the same month last year, registering a growth of 272 per cent. Figo continued to be the top selling model. Total sales in May registered 7.6 per cent increase from 7,509 units sold in April.

Ford India has reported over 20,000 bookings for Figo since its launch. The company also plans to increase the network of its after-sales service from its current 165 outlets in 97 cities across India.
