Lanco Infratech bags Rs 4,100-crore contract from Moser Baer arm

BS Reporter Hyderabad

Infrastructure enterprise Lanco Infratech Ltd (LITL) today said it had secured a Rs 4,100-crore engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from Moser Baer Power, a subsidiary of Moser Baer Projects, to execute its 2x600-(Mw) coal-based thermal power project.

L R Shrivastava, chief executive officer of Moser Baer Power, and S C Manocha, chief executive officer (EPC division) of LITL, signed the contract today. The scope of the project covers main and balance of plant (BoP), including civil and structural works. Lanco has received its notice to proceed and a project team is in place.

“This is a milestone for LITL as it is the first contract to give full scope of EPC works, including the main and BoP for an external client,” said Manocha. In July, the company bagged a BoP contract from Mahagenco for its 3X660-Mw Koradi project.

LITL has 2,087 Mw under operation and more under construction, according to a press release.

Plans to purchase coal mine
Bloomberg reports: Lanco Infratech Ltd, an energy and infrastructure firm that agreed to buy Australia’s Griffin Coal Mining Co, aims to purchase more overseas assets as it seeks to boost power capacity sevenfold by 2015.

Mines in Indonesia, Africa and Australia may be targeted, Nagaprasad Kandimalla, chief executive officer of the Hyderabad-based company, said in an interview yesterday.

Lanco plans to spend about Rs 90,000 crore ($20 billion) by 2015 to increase generating capacity to 15,000 Mw, of which 85 per cent would be fuelled by coal, he said. India, Asia’s fastest-growing major economy behind China, is burning more of coal as economic expansion raises demand.

“We are also looking at a portfolio of coal assets, which began with Griffin,” Kandimalla said. “We are not going to stop here.”
