The Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, and the British Council recently had a three-day workshop conducted by internationally acclaimed tutors from UK and India.

The workshop was part of a joint initiative on business and social responsibility.

The initiative, according to the MDI, is aimed at implementing the recommendations of this workshop, which comprises the potential to develop corporate and management education partnerships on social responsibility.

Speaking about the initiative Devi Singh, director, MDI said that, "This is an endeavour to bridge the gap between businesses and society and is a part of the continuing effort on part of MDI to inculcate values of social responsibility amongst the business managers".

He further added that the initiative aims to move businesses from welfare approach to promoting triple bottomline of economic, environmental and social accountability.

The purpose is to influence business leaders on issues of corporate social responsibility, and make them understand the impact of business in building a society based on equality and justice.

To be carried out in four phases, the first phase of the initiative which started in November 2002 will end in February.

The regular programmes that MDI offers include PGPM, National Management Programme and Fellow Programme in Management.
