Madhya Pradesh State Co-operative Dairy Federation (MPCDF) soon plans to have a pan India presence by supplying milk throughout the country, said officials.
"We are taking steps in this direction and soon plan to restart modern tetra pack milk packaging plant in Indore and set up a skimmed milk plant in Ujjain for this purpose," said Subhash Mandge, chairman, MPCDF.
The Federation will restart a plant which was previously used by Sanchi brand and is not functioning since last 10 year. The tetra pack plant would be run on Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model and tenders would be floated once the state government gives green signal, said Mandge.

Federation feels an expenditure of around ' 70 crore would be required to restart the plant. The plant, once functional, will have a capacity to process and pack around 50,000 litre milk a day.
The tetra pack milk will have a shelf life of around 90-120 days. Federation plans to market the milk in metro cities and large organisations like railways, army and others. The plant will also benefit the state milk farmers as they would get better returns for their produce, claimed MPCDF officials.
Federation officials added that the milk required by such plants needs to be produced by 'clean milk production' methods and farmers get up to ' 2 more per litre for such milk. The Federation has been training farmers for such methods and in future it will give special training to milk farmers in villages to make setups for 'clean milk production' for A-grade milk.
Around, 100-200 such setups would be created in the major milk producing areas, said officials.
Madhya Pradesh has made good progress in milk production in the last 10 years as the state now ranks 7th nationally, according to the officials. State produces around 1.2 million litre milk a day and around one million litre is consumed daily leaving 0.2 million litre surplus, said officials. To use this surplus milk, MPCDF also plans to set up a skimmed milk plant in Ujjain.
