PGVCL registers growth, expands reach

Paschim Gujarat Vij Corporation (PGVCL), a venture promoted by the state government with an aim to provide electricity and energy in eight districts of Saurashtra-Kutch region in Gujarat has registered phenomenal growth in terms of revenue earnings by accumulating Rs 346 crore on higher side.
 
Apart from this, PGVCL has also expanded its network covering 99,771 kilometers area of Saurashtra-Kutch region wherein electricity is supplied to 70 cities, towns and 5,508 villages, falling in the covered geographical spread.
 
Detailing more on the infrastructure and technical spread laid by PGVCL, B V Patel, officer on special duty while speaking to Business Standard said, "We have divided the whole spread into 9 circles and are providing electricity to a population of 1.5 crore in this spread. These circles are further divided into 37 division offices and 239 sub-division offices."
 
"Atleast 318 sub-stations are functional in this spread with a grid of 1,03,953 transformers and 2,772 feeders which are engaged in providing electricity to 30,95,546 customers," he added.
 
Currently, the workforce of 11,378 employees is engaged with PGVCL and our aim is to provide safe and uninterrupted power supply to the PGVCL customers aiming growth in terms of revenue and spread, further reducing overheads and encouraging employee base of PGVCL, added Patel.
 
We have almost completed 99 per cent task assigned vide Jyoti Gram Scheme initiated by State Government for electrifying the villages, towns and cities in our spread, except where ever there are some technical matters which require clarification, the work is on verge of completion, said Patel.
 
Speaking on the revenue structure of PGVCL, Patel said, "In comparison to revenue receipts of financial year 2004-05, PGVCL has registered marginal growth of Rs.346 crore as company registered revenue receipts of Rs.2,253 crore for financial year 2004-05, whereas in financial year 2005-06 PGVCL registered revenue receipts of Rs.2,599 crore."
 
This receipts have averaged at Rs.28.83 crores per month, with record breaking receipts of Rs.251.02 crore registered in the month of March 2006.
 
Overall growth in terms of precentage receipts per month is 13.33 per cent on higher side for financial year 2005-06, in comparison to the percentage receipts per month registered for financial year 2004-2005, claimed Patel.
 
Classification of customer base of 30,95,546 customers of PGVCL, Patel said, "Out of this customer base 72.55% connections are in residential area. Out of rest of 27.45 per cent connections, 11.37 per cent connections are for agricultural power consumption purpose, 2.27 per cent are Low Tension category connections installed in Industrial area, 0.34 per cent connections are for irrigation purpose and balance 0.04 per cent connections are of High Tension Category installed in Industrial area."
