Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands has set up a global research and development centre in the country. This is the third such centre for Philips with one in Eindhoven (the Netherlands) and the other in Shanghai(China).

Going by the strong growth it has witnessed in the Asia Pacific region (APAC), the company decided to open the second development centre in this region for lighting and electronics in Gurgaon to cater to the emerging markets.

“From engineering and education point of view, India is well designed to accommodate any kind of research and development initiative. After China, India is the obvious choice for setting up the competence centre, going by the size and opportunity in the country,” Herbert Willmy, CEO and EVP Business Group Lighting Electronics, Philips (Lighting) told Business Standard.
