Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) subsidiary Reliance Power Ltd (RPL) has said its planned 700 Megawatt (Mw) Tato hydro power project in Arunachal Pradesh has received clearance from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), the government’s apex power sector planning body.

“All major clearances have been obtained and project implementation would commence shortly,” Reliance Power said in a statement. The project is expected to be commissioned over six years.

The Rs 6,000 crore plant, with four units of 175 Mw each, is being set up in the West Siang district in the north-eastern state on the Siyom river. The Run-of-the-River (RoR) project would generate 3,000 Million Units (MUs) of electricity at 50% Plant Load factor (PLF).

Reliance Power is developing 4,620 Mw of hydroelectric power capacity at seven locations in the country. The company said it has added hydro power plants into its portfolio to ensure a balanced generation mix.

Reliance Power also said that the project would provide direct employment to around 2,000 locals once the construction activity begins. The company also claimed the Tato project would involve “minimal” rehabilitation owing to the small size of the reservoir.
