Tributes paid to to Dorabji Jamsetji Tata

Glowing tributes were paid to Sir Dorabji Jamsetji Tata on his 151st birth anniversary today who had vision not only to take Jamshedpur and Tata Steel to great heights, but also wanted to make the country great.

Tata Steel Managing Director, H M Nerurkar said Dorabji had played a key role in setting up the Tata Steel Plant, which was the first integrated one Asia, as well as the steel city of Jamshedpur.

Dorabji, who was one of the longest-serving chairmen of Tata Steel (1907-32), was not only an industrialist, but also a sports lover, Nerurkar said.

Dorabji had played an important role in setting up world-class sports infrastructure, hospital, schools and colleges here, he said.

 

Stating that he had funded the Indian contingent comprising athletes and the hockey team for the 1924 Paris Olympics, he said, Dorabji was the first president of Indian Olympic Association.
