Vandanaa Power plans 2400 Mw thermal plant

Chhatisgarh-based Vandanaa Power Infratech Pvt Ltd is mulling to set up a 2400 MW (600MW x 4 units) coal-based power plant near Navalakhi port in Kutch district, with an estimated investment of Rs 10,000 crore.

The company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard during recently concluded Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit 2011.

“We are focused on Gujarat to expand our power generation operations. We have identified about 2000 acres of land in Navalakhi and will start the construction work after taking the required clearances from the government. If all goes well, we intend to commission our first unit of 2400 MW plant by 2014-15,” said Vinod Aggarwal, managing director of the company.

 

The company will use imported coal for the project, which will be based on the super critical technology based.

“We will import coal at the Navalakhi port itself as it has coal handling facility,” informed Aggarwal.

The company is also developing a 300 MW thermal plant in Chattisgarh with is scheduled to go on stream by June 2011. Currently, the company generates 100 MW power through renewable sources like wind and bio-mass.

The Vandanaa group’s annual turnover had scaled Rs 1050 crore in FY 2008-09 from Rs 634.34 crore in 2007-08.
