The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today approved the phase-I of redevelopment of Safdarjung Hospital with an estimated cost of Rs 1,332 crore.
The redevelopment plan of the hospital includes establishment of two separate building blocks with a capacity of 807 super specialty bed along with paid ward block and a 500 bed emergency block. Both blocks will have intensive care unit (ICU) beds, the government said in a statement.
The estimated cost is inclusive of Rs 165 crore towards expenses on operations for the first one year.

“The super specialty cum paid ward block will cater only to cardio vascular thoracic science, cardiology, cardiac surgery, endocrinology, neurosurgery, nephrology, neurology etc. This block will have its own diagnostic and investigation facilities, some of which are proposed to be provided through the public private partnership mode,” the statement said.
The emergency block will cater primarily to orthopedics, neurosurgery and general surgery along with emergency cases.
According to the statement, the project is expected to be implemented within 47 months.
