Digvijay questions if SC is not belittling institutions; BJP lashes out

Close on the heels of the apex court hauling up the central investigative agency CBI for being nothing more than a “caged parrot” which was answerable to multiple masters, Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh has stoked controversy by questioning whether this was not amounting to “belittling our institutions?” In an early morning tweet Digvijay Singh said, “Hon Supreme Court calls CBI a Parrot in a Cage , CAT calls Intelligence Bureau a Chicken . Are we not belittling our Institutions?”

Opposition BJP immediately lunged at the Congress urging it to introspect within rather than blame the judiciary.

Digvijay Singh then followed up his tweet with a comment to news reporters saying, “By calling CBI a parrot in cage, then a Central Administrative Bench in Bangalore calling the IB a chicken... Now I have a question to the people in general. Are we not belittling our institutions? That's it.” He added, “I want you to respond. I will request you to try and get access to all those who are calling our institutions chicken or parrot. You should take reaction from them also.”      
 

BJP senior leader Ravishankar Prasad hitting out at the Congress-led UPA said, “If the morale of the CBI has been downgraded, it is only because of the rank abuse of the CBI by the Government. CBI was deliberately not allowed to take up fair investigation. Otherwise the minister of his (UPA) government would not have sought to weaken the import of the CBI's entire investigations in the coalgate. Why it was done because the Prime Minister was involved in the coalgate scam.”

Prasad attacking Digvijay Singh said it was the duty of the apex court to ensure a fair investigation in a "massive case of corruption", and “instead of blaming the highest judiciary, it is important for Digvijay Singh to learn and understand as to why there are a series of scams one after another in this government and can we know that there will be no scam again in the coming months.”

In the wake of the apex court observations in the Coalgate issue censuring primarily the CBI and also the government, Law minister Ashwani Kumar had had to tender in his resignation.
