Of the 23 Supreme Court (SC) judges who have disclosed their assets, only five have personal cars to their name. Recently-appointed Chief Justice of India (CJI) T S Thakur - who publicly supported Delhi government's odd-even formula earlier - in fact, owns a Premier 118 NE.

Three other judges - Justice Madan B Lokur, Justice Vikramajit Sen, Justice A K Sikri - have their spouses owning a car.

Justice Anil R Dave, who disclosed his asset information on March 2009, is the only judge with two cars - a Hyundai Santro (2000 model) and a Honda City (2006 model). He also owns a Hero Honda bike (1998 model) and a Sunny scooter (1988). His spouse does not own a car.

Of the total 27 judges, four judges - Justice U U Lalit, Justice Amitava Roy, Justice A M Sapre, Justice R F Nariman - have not disclosed their assets as yet on the SC website.

Justice F M Ibrahim Kalifulla owns a Fiat (1961 vintage model) whereas Justice Kurian Joseph has a Maruti Esteem (2004 model), which he purchased in a second-hand deal in 2007. Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose, who disclosed his asset information in September 2013, owns a Maruti SX4 (2010 model).

The wives of Justice Lokur and Justice Sikri have a Maruti Swift (2010 model) and a Honda Civic, respectively. Similarly, Justice Sen's wife has a Hyundai i20, which she purchased from her daughter in 2010 for Rs 4 lakh.

While Justice R Banumathi does not have a vehicle, her husband has a Honda Activa scooter, which she valued at Rs 30,000, according to her disclosure last year.

According to the resolution adopted in the full-court meeting of the SC in May 1997, judges have to disclose their asset details to the CJI in an internal resolution. However, such information used to be a closely-guarded secret. After facing intense public scrutiny, in another full-court meeting of August 2009, it was decided that all such information would be disclosed on the SC's official website.
