Over 14,000 trees to be uprooted to redevelop South Delhi colonies: Govt

Delhi is set to lose the protective green cover of over 14,000 native trees. Despite weather changes, native trees act as soil retainers, dust barriers and more significantly as adaptive vegetation. But the Delhi government, for the purpose of central government accommodations, is preparing to reduce the vegetation cover. 

About 14,000 trees would be felled for the re-development of seven colonies in south Delhi, the government said on Thursday.
