Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee on Thursday said the statements issued by CPI(M) leaders about the killing of two of its party leaders in Burdwan town had a "political motive" behind it.

"There was political motive behind the statements of CPI(M) leaders like Biman Bose and Leader of the Opposition Suryakanta Mishra who have been trying to hit the headlines," Chatterjee, the Commerce and Industry Minister, told reporters at Writers' Building.

"Any death is shocking. The administration will do its duty," he said. About the arrest of four persons for yesterday's killing at Dewandighi in Burdwan town, Chatterjee said, "The law will take its own course." Sports Minister Madan Mitra ascribed the killing to an "internal feud" of the CPI(M).
