SC stays bull-taming festival Jallikattu

The Supreme Court today stayed Centre's decison that allowed Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu. The development comes days after the Centre gave its nod to the bull fighting sport.
N G Jayasimha, member, Animal Welfare Board of India and managing director of Humane Society International/India who had petitioned the Supreme Court said the order is a huge victory for animals.
"We hope government of Tamil Nadu will not allow Jallikattu to take place," Jayasimha said.
Along with the stay, the apex court issued notices too all states mentioned in notification dated January 7 asking them to file a response.
The court observed that the bull-taming festival would not be celebrated in Tamil Nadu this year.
