Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa initiated 14 projects worth Rs 10,054 crore in Chennai today. It included inauguration of seven projects with investments to the tune of Rs 3,636 crore, while foundation stone was laid for the rest with an investment of Rs 6,418 crore.
The inauguration and laying of foundation stone happened through video conferencing from the Secretariat in the city.
The inaugurated projects are likely to employ 9,775 people, while the rest of the projects are set to create 14,878 employments.
The projects being inaugurated include Rs 1,200-crore expansion project of MRF for truck and car tyres in Perambalur, Rs 975-crore solar power project of Welspun Renewable Energy in Tirichirappalli, Rs 450-crore expansion project of Samsung India for consumer goods in Sriperumbudur, Rs 300-crore for glass manufacturing and Rs 250 crore R&D facilities of Saint Gobain India Ltd, Rs 300-crore worth solar power project of Sun Edison Solar Power India in Virudhunagar district, Rs 100-crore footwear facility expansion project of Growth Link Overseas at Tiruvannamalai district and Rs 61 crore fragrance and flavours project of Takasago International (India).
Meanwhile, the projects for which the foundation stone was laid include Rs 2,700-crore expansion plan of Apollo Tyres at Oragadam, Rs 677-crore good processing project of ITC at Pudukkottai district, Rs 350-crore expansion project of TVS Motors at Hosur, Rs 800-crore expansion plan of Saint Gobain at Sriperumbudur, Rs 360-crore worth of footwear project of Lotus Footwear Enterprises at Krishnagiri district , Rs 931-crore worth expansion project of MRF for truck and car tyres in Perambalur, and another Rs 500 crore worth truck and car tyre project at Arakkonam, Vellore district.
Two fish and shrimp hatchery projects together worth Rs 100 crore of Sheng Long Bio-Tech Pvt Ltd at Kancheepuram will also be kick started today.
The chief minister also inaugurated the multi-layered double-coated board plant, which comes up with an outlay of Rs 1,650 crore in Tiruchirappalli district with a capacity of 2 lakh metric tonne per annum, expansion of the cement plant at Karur district from 600 tonnes to 900 tonnes per day at a cost of Rs 50 crore and a centre for convention of Paper and Packaging Board at Karur with an investment of Rs 30 crore, by Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd.
