With the help of state cadaver transplant programme, Tamil Nadu has seen 3,519 organ transplantations in the last seven years.
The state has one of the highest number of organ transplants taking place in the country, said J Radhakrishnan, secretary in the department of health, medical education and family welfare.
He was speaking to mediapersons at a function organised by Apollo Hospitals here to express gratitude towards families of five people, who had donated 23 different organs.

"More and more people should be aware about organ transplant and come forward to save lives. We are planning to launch a multimedia campaign to improve awareness on organ donation. We also urge people to follow safety rules during travel to avoid loss of life," said Radhakrishnan.
