After a break two weeks, West Bengal is all set to suffer another transport strike from October onwards.

As the state government continues its dilly-dally over fare hike, transport bodies have again decided to resort to indefinite strike demanding fare hike, following the recent increase in diesel price.

Joint Council of Bus Syndicate, that controls over 37,000 buses in the state, has called for shut down of services from October 1.

“The state government has promised to increase the bus fares when we went on a strike last week. Now, they are denying. We have sent a letter communicating we are forced to resort to indefinite strike from October 1 unless our demands are met,” Sadhan Das of Joint Council of Bus Syndicate said.

Bengal taxi association too has also called for a indefinite strike from from October 8 onwards.

Other transport bodies, like that of luxury taxi association and mini bus associations, are expected to make similar announcements if their demands are not met.

West Bengal transport minister Madan Mitra said, ”We will request them not to resort to strike. We will sympathetically consider transport owners' demands.”
