Bio-remediation to clean Ludhiana's Buddha Nullah

Union Minister for Environment and Forest Jairam Ramesh laid the foundation stone of the multi-crore bio-remediation project for cleaning of the Buddha Nullah in Ludhiana on Saturday. The Rs 16-crore project will be fully funded by the Union Ministry for Environment of the Indian government. Accompanied by Congress party’s national spokesperson Manish Tewari, Ramesh later said, this is the first and the largest project of the ministry across the country where bacteria are used for cleaning the water-bodies. There are five places across the country where such projects have been launched. He said, the effects of the project will be seen within a year. He also announced the project will be closely monitored not only by the union ministry but by experts and the media. Ramesh said, during the last one year his ministry has sanctioned Rs 316 crore for various projects in Punjab.
