Chhattisgarh government had been working on a plan to increase the power transmission capacity in the state that had been on fast track to emerge as power-hub of the country.
"The state government had set a target to increase the transmission capacity from 4900 MVA (Mega Volt Ampere) to 7800 MVA," Governor Balramji Das Tandon said while addressing members of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly on the first day of Budget session that started Monday. The state government is successfully working on the plan to make Chhattisgarh the power hub of the country, he added.
"In the series of opening new power station (for which capacity of transmission lines would be crucial), the work on second unit of Madwa power project of the state government was in progress," Tandon said. The crop production in the state had also registered records with the availability of electricity in the rural areas, he added.

The Governor said the Chhattisgarh Government had given top priority to the schemes launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The State Government had launched awareness campaign for the "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan" in the rural areas and had set a target to construct 268,000 toilets this year.
Tandon said the state would have another sugar factory to be named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Pandaria of Kabeerdham district. The factory would help a large number of farmers taking sugarcane crop in the area. They had been struggling to sell the yield following limited capacity of the existing sugar factories in the state.
He added that road projects worth Rs 575 crore had been sanctioned in the Naxal-affected 29 Development Blocks.
