Concor to impose exigency surcharge on ICD boxes

Multimodal logistics operator and Railways undertaking Container Corporation of India (Concor) is planning to impose an exigency surcharge of Rs 300 on all inland container depot (ICD) containers handled at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) from August 22 to December 31.
"In the wake of flood in Maharashtra, Concor has made alternate arrangement by sea and road to evacuate cargo backlog at JN Port. This additional cost will be shared and distributed among all ICD containers by way of exigency surcharge," said Arvind Bhatnagar chief general manager, Concor, here today.
Bhatnagar said Concor has not yet worked out actual additional cost incurred for alternate arrangement and the proposed surcharge of Rs 300 per twenty foot equivalent units (TEU) on all ICD containers was on tentative basis.
"The arrangement could deal with additional three to four trains each day. Considering ICD backlog, Concor has made alternate arrangement, apart from direct evacuation from JNPT, such as cargo movement by barges via Mumbai port and by road upto Mulund container freight station (CFS)," he said.
Asked about single line restoration of Vasai-Panvel-JNPT, Bhatnagar said the movement of trains on this sector has started from August 7 and double line service would depend upon the repairs at Bhiwandi rail bridge which has weakened during flood.
"Kalyan-Kasara restoration work is expected by August 20 while Panvel-Karjat line has declared as fit for train running," he said.
