Corporates to assist Govt hospital: Antony

Speaking after inaugurating a newly constructed putpatient block at Ernakulam District General Hospital here, Antony said medical expenses has gone up and government, with its limited funds, alone could not be able to provide facilities in general hospitals to the satisfaction of public.     

He said public sector units, businessmen and elite class of the society should come forward for improving facilities in general hospitals.     

 

On cricket, he said 'cricket, which was an entertainment game, has now has become an industry, because the rich people can show their financial capacity. In olden day's people is to own elephants to show their richness', he said.     

Promising maximum help for the development of the general hospital, Antony said even though there were a number of private hospitals in the state, majority of the people were not able to avail the facility as medical expenses were going up with increase in infrastructure facilities, he said.     

Infrastructure facilities in government schools, colleges and general hospitals should be increased so that the poor would be benefited. 'Majority of the people in the state still depend general hospital for treatment'.     

A memorandum was submitted to Antony by Doctors Association, who are on strike demanding among other things increase in their wages.     

Dr M Beena, Ernakulam district collector, said an estimated Rs 84 lakh had been spent for the construction of ground floor. Construction of first and second floors will be taken up in the near future, she said.
